This TV special is set on planet
Vegeta before the Dragon Ball story begins.
On planet Vegeta, the son of
Bardock, a low class fighter, has been born.
Doctors conclude that the baby Kakarrot is a
relatively weak Saiyan, and decide he will be
sent to conquer a weak planet called Earth.
Meanwhile, the Saiyans have conquered planet
Kanassa for Freeza by turning into Oozarus after
seeing the full moon, and are now resting.
Bardock is talking with another Saiyan when he is
attacked by a survivor of the invaded planet.
Before the creature is killed, he tells Bardock
that he has cursed him with the ability to see
into the future, and he will know of the bleak
future for the Saiyan race. Bardock falls to the
ground, unconcious, and is then taken back to
planet Vegeta.
On his home planet, the young Prince Vegeta is
training by killing Saibamen in a room. He
decides he wants to be stronger, and goes to
Freeza to ask if he may go and take over an
undefeated planet. Freeza is talking to Zarbon
about the conquering of planet Kanassa, when
Prince Vegeta enters and asks for a new mission.
Zarbon does not think it is a good idea for the
young Saiyan to question the Lord Freeza's plans,
but Freeza agrees with the Prince and sends him
to take over a planet.
Bardock is healing and the rest of his group are
off on another mission to planet Meat. Bardock
has a vision of his son growing up and planet
Vegeta being destroyed. When he wakes up, he
decides to join the group going to planet Meat.
When he lands on the planet, he thinks the bodies
he sees are the doing of the Saiyans, but when he
gets closer, he sees his friends are the ones who
are actually dying, having been attacked by
Dodoria and his men. Bardock goes to his friend
Toma, who tells him about the betrayal of Freeza
and how the Saiyans must gang up to defeat him,
before he dies. Bardock, after wiping the blood
off Toma's face with a white armband, ties it
around his head and leaves to find those
responsible.
Bardock defeats some of Freeza's henchmen who are
nearby in a rage. Dodoria then arrives, and fires
a blast from his mouth at Bardock. He leaves the
Saiyan for dead and returns to Freeza. On planet
Vegeta, Zarbon tells Freeza one Saiyan managed to
escape, but Freeza dismisses it by saying if he
is returning to planet Vegeta it doesn't matter.
Bardock gets up and makes his way home too.
When Bardock arrives, he is told that Kakarrot
has been sent to Earth, and he realizes his
visions had been of the truth. He has another
vision of his grown up son, and warns the other
Saiyans. None of them listen, so Bardock runs to
face Freeza himself. He finds Freeza and greets
him by firing an energy beam towards him. However
Freeza dodges the attack easily and absobs
Bardock's beam into an energy ball of his own,
which he sends down to planet Vegeta. The ball
touches the planet, which blows up, killing all
the Saiyans on it including Bardock, who dies
with the vision of his son fighting Freeza.
Prince Vegeta and Nappa learn of the destruction
of their home, but Vegeta does not really care.
Young Kakarrot flies towards Earth in a pod, and
his father speaks to him, telling him of how
Freeza must be destroyed to get revenge for the
Saiyan race. The pod crashes on Earth and the
baby Kakarrot is found by an old man named Son
Gohan. He adopts the child, naming him Goku.
Meanwhile, Freeza, celebrating his triumph, is
unaware of the few surviving Saiyans who would
one day defeat him.
