Piccolo Daimaou Saga

Goku leaves to find Tambourine, a green monster, which had killed Krillin. He finds Tambourine and his father Piccolo Daimaou when he is knocked off his Kintoun. Pilaf is also there. Roshi, Yamcha and Tien arrive, and Roshi tells them all that Piccolo Daimaou had been trapped in a rice cooker for many years, but Pilaf had opened it and released the demon.

Goku goes to find the Dragon Balls and soon meets Yajirobe. They find 2 Dragon Balls, and kill Tambourine and Cymbal, two of Piccolo Daimaou's children. However, Piccolo Daimaou steals the Dragon Balls, having gathered three himself, and then takes the remaining two from Roshi, who dies trying to stop him. Piccolo Daimaou kills Chaozu and beats up Tien. Shenron is then summonned, and the demon wishes to be young again.

The surviving Z warriors train, and Goku and Yajirobe climb Karin Tower to gain strength. Piccolo Daimaou takes over the position of King of the World. When Tien and Goku arrive at the city, there is a fight with Piccolo Daimaou. Eventually, Goku manages to half kill him, but before dying, the demon spits out an egg into the distance, containing his son and reincarnation, Piccolo. Over the next 3 years, Piccolo grows up, and Goku trains with Kami.

3 years later, the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai is being held. The Z guys arrive to compete. Piccolo is also competing. Tao Pai Pai beats Chaozu, but is defeated by Tien. Piccolo and Kami fight, but Piccolo wins by trapping Kami in the rice cooker. Goku fights against Chi Chi, but he doesn't know who she is, and she reminds him that he promised to marry her.

Goku and Piccolo get through to the final and fight. Piccolo grew to an enormous size during the battle, and both fighters were given Senzus at one point. Eventually, Goku frees Kami from the pot, and defeats Piccolo, but doesn't kill him, because then Kami would die. At the end of the saga, Goku and Chi Chi get married. From this point, the TV show changes its name to Dragonball Z, but the manga continues as Dragon Ball.
