Fusion

Fusion is a technique learnt by Goku when he was dead in the Buu saga. It involves two people, of similar age and power level doing a weird dance. When they touch fingertips a new character which is a combination of the two is created. They have to be exactly in time, or it won't work properly, and a strange looking, weaker form of the character is formed. A personality flaw in all characters fused this way is that they have a big ego. Fused characters are much stronger. Fusion wears off after half an hour and the two original people come back. This type of fusion is used by Trunks and Goten in the Buu saga to make Gotenks.

The Namekians have their own way of fusing which is permanent. Piccolo fused with Nail and Kami in this way.

The third type of fusion is with the Potara earrings and also can't be reversed. Each person has to wear one earring while fusing. This type of fusion was done by Vegeta and Goku in the Buu saga. However they were absorbed by Buu at the last minute so the fusion would be undone.
